We are here again, this time with a new pattern with Granny stitch. We will learn How to Crochet Granny Rectangle today, with help of this you can make bags, purses and even blankets. So let us start.

So, to start with we will need 2 different colours of Yarn and one crochet hook. I will recommend a hook size of 4mm and above for the beginners, and also 4 ply Yarn. Here we will be taking a 4.00mm size hook since the yarn we have, works best with this particular hook.
Things we will need to make our Granny Rectangle
- Crochet Hook Size: 4.00 mm or more
- Yarn: Any 4 ply yarn (or any yarn suitable for the hook size)
Further, we will also require a pair of scissors and a yarn needle. We will take 2 different colours so that it becomes easy for you to see the different rounds.
Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
SS: slip stitch
dc: Double Crochet
The pattern for the Granny Rectangle will be as below:
Take one colour and Chain 21
Round 1:
Step 1: Make a DC in 6th chain from the hook
Step 2: make 2 more DCs in the same chain
Step 3: skip 2 chains and make 3 DCs in the next chain
Step 4: repeat Step 3 (3 more times)
Step 5: skip 2 chains and make a DC in the last remaining chain (which was the 1st starting chain)
Step 6: ch 1 and cut the yarn, secure it by pulling the same
You will have something like this as a result of Round 1 with 5 clusters of 3DCs and one single DC
Round 2:
Take a new colour and make a slip knot and start with your hook as shown in the figure. (in case you want to continue the colour of round 2 just chain 3 after the slip stitch join and 3 DC cluster in the corner)
Step 1: ch 3, 2dc in the same space
Step 2: ch 3, 3 DC in the same space, chain 3
Step 3: 3dc in the next space (created when we skipped 2 chains in round 1)
Step 4: Repeat Step 3 (4 more times)
Step 5: 3 DC in the chain 5 space of round 1,
Step 6: chain 3, 3 dc in space (2 times) (the picture will help you understand better)
Step 7: 3 dc in the next space (repeat this step 3 times)
Step 8: Join with SS to the 1st dc you made (not chain 3 one but the 1st dc itself)
Step 9: ch 1 and cut the yarn, secure it by pulling the yarn
At the end of Round 2, you will have a total of 14 clusters of 3 DCs.
No wyou are slowly learning how to crochet granny rectangle.
Round 3:
Take the colour of Round 1 and make a slip knot, start in space as shown in the pic and not in the corner because this will give it a better look. (in case you want to continue the colour of round 2 just chain 3 after the slip stitch join and 3 DC cluster in the corner)
Step 1: ch 3,
Step 2: 3 dc cluster in the chain 3 space
Step 3: ch 3, 3dc in the same space
Step 4: 3dc in the next space, chain 3
Step 5: 3dc in the same chain 3 space
Step 6: 3dc in the next space
Step 7: Repeat step 6 (4 more times)
Step 8: Repeat Steps 2-5
Step 9: Repeat Step 6 (4 times)
Step 10: 2dc in the next space (where we did our 1st chain 3 of this round)
Step 11: Join with SS to the 1st dc you made (not chain 3 one but the 1st dc itself)
Step 12: ch 1 and cut the yarn, secure it by pulling the yarn
You will have a total of 18 clusters of 3DCs at the end of this round.
Finally, secure the loose ends with help of a yarn needle.
So now you know How to Crochet Granny Rectangle
Now you know how to crochet granny rectangle and will understand the pattern, they are normal 3dc clusters but chain 3 spaces on the corners and no chains at all on the sides. You can also vary this combination by 2 chains or a single chain in the corners. Gray Rectangles can be used to make many things like bags, Afghans, blankets etc.
