Crochet blanket sizes

A lovey is about 12 in square; a baby blanket 30 × 36 in; a crib or toddler blanket 42 × 52 in; a throw for the sofa 50 × 60 in. Bed blankets cover the top of the mattress and hang down the sides: twin 66 × 90 in, full 80 × 90 in, queen 90 × 100 in and king 108 × 100 in.

How the calculator counts

It divides the blanket’s width and length by the size of one square and rounds to the nearest whole square, then tells you the size that really comes out. A border adds a few inches all round, so a blanket a little small before the border is fine.

Joining granny squares

Measure a square after blocking. Joining with slip stitch or a flat join adds almost nothing; a decorative join-as-you-go or a single-crochet ridge adds about ¼ in per seam, which over a big blanket can be a few inches.
