How to Crochet a Flat Circle (and an Amigurumi Ball)
Open the circle & ball calculator
A flat circle grows by the same number of stitches every round: 6 in single crochet, 8 in half double and 12 in double crochet. A 4 in coaster in single crochet takes about 9 rounds and ends on 54 stitches. Our flat circle calculator writes every round for the size you want.

Why circles ruffle, cup or turn into hexagons
- Ruffles: too many increases. Use fewer, or a smaller hook.
- Cups like a bowl: too few increases. Add more.
- A hexagon: the increases stack in the same place every round. The calculator starts every other round halfway into the repeat, so they're staggered and the edge stays round.
Amigurumi balls
Switch to Amigurumi ball and the calculator writes a ball: increase rounds, even rounds, then decreases back to 6 stitches to close. Stuff it before the last few rounds.
