Way back in 1986, Tracee learned the art of Crochet when she was pregnant with her first child. “I wanted a pretty crochet baby blanket. No one I knew could crochet so I taught myself and it was love at first hook!”
It was Tracee’s passion for art and crafts since her childhood that gave her confidence to move into the world of Crochet. However, as the famous quote says – ‘Failure is the stepping stone to success’ – Though Tracee had to shut her first business and blog to take care of her personal priorities – she is back with “Knot 2 Sassy” and she feels she is at the right place now.
“It’s only been the last few years I started writing down patterns. For the longest time, I would have an idea of what I wanted to make and would grab a hook and some yarn and make it. Then I thought I should maybe write some of these down. That’s how I started designing and from there started a blog”
However, her first sale is memorable. “Someone approached me at a friend’s baby shower and asked if I would make baby blankets for them if they paid for it. I was making baby blankets like crazy for friends and family then.” She was thoroughly surprised that Crochet can fetch her real money and that there are people who love and appreciate the art. “That’s how I started doing a lot of custom orders for local customers and a few craft fairs each year”
But, to organize craft fairs and build custom orders – it takes lot of patience and time. And there comes the family who stand behind us like a rock. “My husband has always been supportive, even if he did scratch his head wondering what I saw in this crochet thing. My three boys usually rolled their eyes at Mom and her yarn pile, but now that they are older, they like the fun things I make for my grandbabies! My grandkids usually dig in Grandma’s finished project basket and find things they want to take home with them.” So Cute!

Apart from Crochet, Tracee loves knitting, counted cross stitches and anything crafty. She also crafts for her grand kids so that they get wonderful handmade gifts from their grandmom. Reading mystery and sci-fi books along with some baking keeps her engaged apart from crafts.
“Don’t worry so much about “doing it right”. When I was first learning and teaching myself out of books because I didn’t know anyone who could crochet”. However, one incident shook her confidence so much that she left doing Crochet in public for 20 years – “I was sitting in the clinic waiting room crocheting one day. A lady and her daughter sitting across from me started commenting on how dumb I held the hook and how I held my yarn… etc. I was so embarrassed I didn’t crochet in public for almost 20 years” – Ladies – Never be embarrased. Everyone is unique and so is their style. That is why, it is tough being an artist.
“As I get to know more and more crocheters there isn’t two of us who do it exactly alike. We are all like snowflakes each one completely different and each one completely beautiful. Crochet is to be enjoyed and leave us feeling better than when we started. Let it do that for you!”
